Navel Piercing- Risks Associated And Precautions
The trend of naval piercing or belly button piercing has become a huge rage amongst young girls and women. But, like other body piercing, navel piercing has more number of risks associated with it. However, if you take proper care of your navel piercing, you can avoid the related risks.

Infection and navel piercing
It takes over six months for belly button piercing to get healed. But, sometimes infection arises when unsterilized barbell is used. Infection due to navel piercing is common with girls who fail to take proper care of the piercing. Many others are allergic to metals that also lead to allergic reactions. Belly button piercing is also accompanied by scarring, bleeding, piercing migration or nerve damage.

Symptoms that confirm infection associated with navel piercing
The notable symptom indicating infection with belly button piercing is furious pain that doesn't vanish in 2-3 days.
* After a few days, you will notice redness over the affected area. It can also be accompanied by burning sensation.
* Inflammation and swelling are noticeable symptoms.
* You can also see pus in the piercing area.
* Drainage of yellowish fluid from the pierced area is also one of the symptoms.
* Foul odor may also be present.

Caring for and cleaning the navel piercing
Aftercare for navel piercing can prevent infection as well as other risk factors associated with it. Follow the below mentioned tips to care for your piercing:

* Cleaning is essential to heal the piercing. Not only the piercing site should be cleaned but also the worn jewelry should be cleaned.
* On the day you have got your navel pierced, don't clean it. Avoid touching it for a few days.
* In the first week, let water clean your piercing, but you must avoid touching it.
* Once a week is over, clean the piercing. You will see crust around two holes of piercing. It is common in the healing process, but make sure that scab is not painful. In case it is, use an antibiotic ointment for relief. In case, it still doesn't heal, see a doctor.
* Once the navel gets healed, begin cleaning it while taking shower. Wash piercing with lukewarm water and lather soap around the area. Rinse the area with clear water.
* Don't use towel to dry the piercing instead use cotton swabs to dry it.
* In three months, your piercing will get healed properly. And, after exercise or sweating, wash the piercing with warm water.

Keep the piercing as clean as possible while avoiding over washing and over cleaning it. Also, don't put any ointment on the area, during the healing period. Your physician can certainly guide you better to promote faster healing.
